Protecting your privacy is important to the Thin Green Line Foundation. We are committed to valuing people – our supporters, members, workers and volunteers – as well as the children and communities we serve.
The Australian Privacy Principles, the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID) Code of Conduct, and the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard all apply to us.
Resolving your privacy issues
The Thin Green Line Foundation values the contribution our supporters make to our work, so if you have a complaint please let us know. We will do our best to address and resolve any issues you have.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns about what is explained here – or about our privacy practices in general – please email us with the subject heading “Privacy”. Where you ask for a response, you can expect to hear from us within 30 days.
Reviewing and updating your information
If at any time you want to know what personal information we hold about you, please contact us.
If you wish to have your personal information deleted, we will take reasonable steps to fulfil the request, unless the information is required for legal, auditing or internal risk management reasons.
If we use personal information in ways other than as stated in this policy, we will ensure we comply with the requirements of privacy law.
Protecting children and young people
If you are 15 or over, we assume that you can make your own privacy decisions. If you are under 15, we may need to confirm your decision with a parent or guardian.
We also expect you to take special care with the images of children from our site, just as we do. Please honour the consent given by parents or community leaders by not copying these images unless we tell you that you can.

Collecting your information
We need certain information about you in order to meet your expectations as a member and/or supporter. For example, we can’t issue a tax invoice or send you information our activities if we don’t have your name and address.
Depending on the type of interaction you have with us, we might ask for your name, address, telephone number, email, payment details, and date of birth.
We collect information about you, from you, and with your knowledge where we can. You might:
- fill out a form online, at one of our stands, or send it through the mail
- complete a survey or petition
- contact us by email or social media
- call us
- send us photos or recordings.
We also use “cookies” to track visits to our website; you can usually disable cookies in your internet browser settings. You can find out more about cookies in our Website Terms & Conditions.
We take special care with your financial details, as required by the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard.
If you apply to work with us (including as a volunteer), then we will collect information (such as your work experience and references) so that we can make a decision about your suitability.
Sometimes we might have photos or stories about you; you may have gone to one of our events or held a fundraiser.
Sometimes we might collect information about you from someone else:
- from your parents (if you are under 15)
- if we buy a marketing list you have agreed to be on.
Sometimes we might ask you for sensitive information. If you are visiting children in the communities we partner with, we will ask you for a criminal record check.
We may ask you what makes you passionate about poverty and justice issues (such as your faith, values or opinions), as this helps us to communicate with you.
Using and sharing your information
We will use your information as you would expect. If you are a member or supporter – to process your donations, newsletter subscriptions, change of details – and to tell you about our work.
It is important that we tell you about how your support is making a difference to the rangers and communities we serve together.
We will also encourage you to learn more about poverty and justice issues and let you know about other opportunities to partner with us. This is what it means for you to be part of the Thin Green Line Foundation family.

We expect our service providers to also look after your information carefully. We sometimes use overseas or cloud storage facilities, but this does not change our commitment to safeguard your privacy.
Sometimes we have to disclose your information to other people for a specific purpose, such as when you need a criminal record check to perform pro-bono work for Thin Green Line Foundation.
We generally don’t disclose your information to anyone else. Importantly, we don’t rent, sell or exchange your information without your consent.
Where we tell you about opportunities with our partner organisations, we will not give your information to them; it will be up to you to contact them directly.
If we use or give others your information in any other way not described here, we will still protect your privacy.
Keeping your information safe
We work hard to keep your information secure by having safe systems in place. Our website uses secure response forms when we ask for your personal and payment card details.
We commit to de-identify or destroy your information when it is no longer required.
We will take all reasonable steps to keep your information safe (whether electronic or in hard copy) and to keep it up to date. This includes complying with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard.
Our employees and service providers are also expected to keep personal and payment card information confidential and secure.
