Walking The Thin Green Line Oceania
The Thin Green Line Foundation team with Ranger Amanda Dudgeon
We think it’s about time that we introduce you to a very special member of our extended team…
Ranger Amanda is a Thin Green Line super-supporter and long-term volunteer who is always willing to go above and beyond for the cause. She’s worked as a Ranger in some of Australia’s most beautiful landscapes, from islands on the south coast to the central Australian desert. Now, based in the tropical forests of northern New South Wales, Amanda has set her sights on a new mission – to travel to remote locations across Australia and visit six other nations in Oceania to record and share the stories of nature’s protectors.
Thin Green Line Foundation Founder, Sean Willmore, with Walking The Thin Green Line’s Amanda Dudgeon.
Throughout her career Amanda has been inspired by the dedicated Rangers she’s had the privilege of working with.
“We strive for a future in which Rangers are connected, motivated and empowered to work together across jurisdictions and support each other to achieve greater outcomes for the environment, community and rangers,” Amanda said.
Starting on World Ranger Day 2022, Amanda will set out on a 1500km expedition across the region. Throughout this incredible journey, Amanda will connect schools and students with Rangers and the places they protect. She will also hike one kilometre for every Ranger included on the Roll of Honour, raising vital funds for Ranger led projects around the Oceania region.
“The journey will raise funds for ranger training and development, particularly among Indigenous and First Nations rangers,” said Amanda.
Amanda’s efforts will effect meaningful change for Oceania Rangers, their communities, and the natural and cultural heritage that they protect.
Amanda’s Journey will begin in Sydney on 31st July 2022 and end at Wilsons Promontory on 31st July 2023.
We are thrilled that Amanda has chosen to support Rangers and The Thin Green Line as part of her expedition. We can’t wait to hear updates from the field when she sets off later this year.
