We envisage a thriving planet where every ranger has the resources they need to protect our natural world
— Sean Willmore, Founder and Director
How we fund
Thin Green Line’s operations are underpinned by four strategic pillars that guide the type of projects we support.
To be eligible for TGL funding, your project must first demonstrate activities in at least one of our key focus areas. Examples of eligible activities include:
Training rangers
Saves rangers' and community lives
Projects that support the training, upskilling, and education of rangers to improve the effectiveness and safety of their work.
Equipping rangers
Improves safety and effectiveness
Projects that provide rangers with the equipment they need to conduct their role safely, efficiently, and sustainably.
Emergency ranger support
Urgent rapid response
We provide grants to the families of rangers that have died in the line of duty, as well as in other emergency situations such as environmental or social crises that directly affect rangers.
Connecting rangers
Growing the global ranger community
Projects that help to build networks amongst ranger groups or strengthen relationships between rangers and communities, such as community workshops, human/wildlife mitigation, and junior ranger program.
Read our detailed Program Guidelines here.
We accept Expressions of Interest for support year-round, and occasionally run targeted grant cycles. All new funding opportunities will be advertised on this page, and via our Project Funding mailing list. Our Story
Thin Green Line was founded by award-winning conservationist and ranger Sean Willmore. His acclaimed documentary The Thin Green Line offered a sense of hope and pride for rangers worldwide and became the catalyst for Sean to set up Thin Green Line.
Our programs
We provide support packages that improve the day-to-day work of rangers around the world. We also initiate and invest in game-changing programs that achieve wide-reaching impact for ranger operations and community conservation.
Want to support rangers on the front lines of conservation?
